Belfair Plantation stretches over a thousand acres. It’s a private golfing neighborhood with 24-hour security gates and two 18-hole golf championship courses designed by Tom Fazio. A short drive from the Hilton Head Island bridge, Belfair has its own commercial complex—the Belfair Towne Village—next door with a grocery store, both fast food and sit-down restaurants, video rentals, a salon, and doctor’s offices. Belfair properties share marsh views, forest views, fairway views, river views. Community amenities include a clubhouse, both indoor and outdoor pools, a health club, tennis, a playground, and more.

Belfair Plantation: History
In 1811 William Telfair purchased the land, married a woman named Betsey Bellinger, and named their new estate home “Belfair.” The entrance’s Avenue of Oaks were planted in the 1920s by a subsequent owner named William Swain. Belfair Plantation LLC bought the land in the fall of 1994 to develop a community on the site of the old Belfair estate and plantation, with the help of Reed Development. Plans were approved in July of 1995, after which Atlanta-based NCG Architects, Inc., began the classic design of the clubhouse, gatehouse, golf learning facility, activity facility, and cottage housing scattered around the clubhouse.
