Colleton River Recreation
Athletics: Golf
Colleton River Plantation is home to three fantastic golf courses and two golfing practice facilities that include target and chipping/putting greens. Two of the courses have been nationally awarded and were laid by famous designers; the third is a 9-hole, Par-3, Augusta National-style named for its late designer David Borland and built in 1991.
The 18-hole Pete Dye course opened in 1998 as part of the Colleton River Plantation Country Club. Both courses are Private Equity, but this course is significant for making Golf Magazine’s prestigious Top 100 list a quick six months after opening!
The Signature Jack Nicklaus course also has 18 holes but spreads over 800 acres of deep-water land. This course has been on the Top 100 list for over a decade. It opened in 1992 and has received multitudes of accolades for the exceptional playing experiences and natural vistas of lush meadowlands. The picturesque last five holes border Colleton River.
Tennis
Stan Smith tennis at Colleton River Plantation includes year-round programs, clinics, and socials. Five Har-Tru courts as well as a pro shop and a pavilion make up the facility, where separately fenced, private courts connect through walkways—one court even has stadium seating. International Tennis Pro Gavin Cox leads the facility.
The Fitness Center
The Fitness Center will be relocated to the new Nicklaus Clubhouse in Spring of 2007.
It will have tripled in size to provide more membership amenities including a first-class cardio theatre, weight training and exercise machines, and group exercise space for specialty classes.
Outside activities include miles of walking/jogging/biking trails weaving throughout the community and the deep-water docks at the community facility. The Atlantic and the Intracoastal Waterway are both only a mile down Colleton River!
