Come to Colleton River Plantation to visit the filming site for “The Legend of Bagger Vance” starring Will Smith and Matt Damon! An exclusive 1,500-acre golfing community located before the bridge to Hilton Head Island, Colleton River Plantation borders both the Colleton River and a nature preserve. Although the community is located on the mainland it is still considered one of Hilton Head’s gated plantation neighborhoods. Colleton River is the only plantation in the area with two clubhouses looking over the two championship golf courses, which have been recipients of numerous accolades including recognition as two of Golf Magazine’s Top 100. Just one short mile from the community deepwater docks down Colleton River lies access to both the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic.
Security Features
Located just beyond the entrance to the plantation, within clear view of the main road, the guard gate is manned 24 hours a day.
Colleton River Plantaton: History
Local developer John Reed laid plans for Colleton River in 1989 and gained approval in early 1990 for the community.
